The Order for Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) is a process through which interested adults are gradually introduced to the Roman Catholic Faith and way of life. It includes several stages marked by study, prayer and rites at Mass.
Participants undergo a process of conversion as they study the Gospel, profess faith in Jesus and the Catholic Church, and receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. The OCIA process follows the ancient practice of receiving new members into the Church and was restored by the Second Vatican Council as the normal way adults prepare for baptism. It’s also been adapted to include men and woman already baptized who desire full membership in the Church.
Starting in 2022 the Rescue Project has become a portion of the OCIA experience.
