Baptism is the first of seven sacraments and the way in which a person becomes a member of the Catholic Church. It is a Sacrament of Initiation and allows the sanctifying grace of God to enter one's soul. Baptism is just the beginning of a life long relationship with Jesus and Holy Mother Church. Parents have a very unique role in their child's relationship with Jesus and Holy Mother Church. Through the parents the child learns, experiences, and witnesses what it means to be a catholic. While Canon Law teaches that parents have an obligation to have their children baptized and it should be done within “the first few weeks of birth” the Church also teaches that "the parents of an infant to be baptized and those who are to undertake the function of sponsor are to be instructed properly on the meaning of this sacrament and the obligations attached to it. The pastor personally or through others is to take care that the parents are properly instructed through both pastoral advice and common prayer, bringing several families together and, where possible, visiting them."
To assure that those involved in a child's baptism are able to succeed in fostering the newly baptized relationship with Jesus and Holy Mother Church, we ask that parents seeking the baptism of their child reach out to the Parish at least 4 months before their desired baptism date.
Parents are required to attend an introduction meeting, meet with a welcome/mentor couple prior to the baptism, and participate in the Rescue Project. It is recommended that parents reach out to the Parish at least 4 months prior to desired date of baptism so as to allow ample time of preparation..

"It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. On coming out of the water, he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. And a voice came down from the heavens, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased." - Mark 1: 9-11
